New episode from my fave ‘name the city’ series. Lately I travel to the same destination over and over again, so I dug out an old one from my archive. These pictures were taken in the years 2005 and 2006, so these days the location might look a bit different. And since it is very uncommon place for travellers, here are some hints:
- about 80% of the country is covered by desert
- world’s number 10 producer of cotton
- world’s number 5 in natural gas reserves
- gained full independence only couple of years ago
- more than half of the population is unemployed and living in poverty
From the pictures it looks like a nice place to live in…

… though some streets could use little repairs…

All these pictures have been taken in the capital city, mostly in the center. For leaving the capital – and more importantly for entering it – you need a special permit, which looks like invitation letter for visa application. Well, this was 3 years ago, I wonder if it still required. Can this be another clue?

thinking, thinking, thinking… okay now i remember where you’ve been traveling lately. these pics were taken from the capital of Uganda which is tahdan -> Kampala?
Based on your hints: I googled cotton-producing countries and looked at the top ten, then came up with Uzbekistan as the country… but you want the city name, yeah? I’m guessing it’s the capital Tashkent… though I haven’t seen those buildings from the Tashkent images I’ve surfed online. Whew!
